Maya's Blog

 This semester has been my first time in Colorado, so being surrounded by the nature and mountains has definitely inspired my creativity. It always gives me a fresh and new perspective, so whenever I feel stuck or overwhelmed, going out to be in nature really sparks my creativity. While there is great nature in San Diego, where I'm from, the nature is different here and I love it.  

  One memorable building I've experienced is one San Diego in Balboa Park. It was a very big and sort of grand building, and made me feel intrigued as to what was inside of it and the history behind it. I think it's a very beautiful building, and I love going to see it every time I'm there. 

 I'm majoring in Digital Design. I decided on this major because I've always been interested in the design of graphics, especially for ads and promotional videos. Towards the middle of high school, I started researching careers and then started looking into digital design, and discovered that it was something I would really like to do and learn more about. I've learned a lot about it so far, and am looking forward to gaining more knowledge about it. 

 Throughout this semester, my thoughts and understanding of creativity have deepened immensely. I feel like I understand the creative process better and more in-depth. This understanding has helped me when I'm actually diving into the creative process, because I know now that it isn't a linear process and things will end up not working, but that it's okay because that is the process. I also learned more about different ways of thinking, like design thinking, which I thought was incredibly interesting. Overall, I feel more connected to my own creativity, and know a lot more about it in general now. 

 For the creative individual paper, I chose to write about Walt Disney. He was born in Chicago, but spent a lot of time in Missouri. Growing up, Disney loved to draw and sold his artwork to his friends and family, and followed that passion for art and creating. He did many different types of jobs throughout his twenties, most of which included working with film or some sort of animation. Disney eventually created a character named "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit", who ended up being stolen from him. Being without a job, Disney had to come up with another idea, which was when he created Mickey Mouse. After that, Disney and his empire expanded into films, amusement parks, and so much more to what we know today. 

 I visited Hawaii a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. I thought the nature and the water there was so beautiful, and definitely felt drawn to the tranquility of it all. If I could visit again, I would want to go to more of the islands and go to different beaches and more hikes. I also think the next time I go, I want to spend more time there. I went for around a week, but next time would like to spend closer to two weeks there.
